Typographic art print commissioned to mark 150 years of Shoreditch Town Hall.
The work visualizes the words ‘More Light, More Power’, a motto displayed alongside the Borough’s coat of arms.
In the early 1900’s the London Borough of Shoreditch adopted the motto ‘More Light, More Power’ through efforts to harness the benefits of electricity, with a strong emphasis on improving the lives of local people. Our piece is an extract from a letter written in 1965 by American artist Sol LeWitt to fellow artist and close friend Eva Hesse. During a period of self-doubt and creative block, Eva received an emotive and inspirational letter of advice from Sol, copies of which have since inspired artists the world over.
The words have also been brought to life in an awe-inspiring reading as part of a series called Letters Live, which can be viewed here Nowness: Letters Live
